Over six sessions, participants engage with the foundational ideas drawn from the works of Edward Said, Henry Giroux, Paulo Freire, and Neil Postman amongst others – that define what it means to teach as an intellectual act. The program is organized around three interconnected questions:
What does it mean to be an intellectual educator?
What is knowledge – and whose knowledge counts?
How do we actually teach in ways that produce thinking rather than compliance?
The program is intellectually serious and yet practically grounded. It is designed for educators who already sense that something is missing and are ready to address it.

What does it mean to teach as an intellectual? Who are the models and what did they do differently?
Knowledge & Power
What counts as knowledge? Whose worldview structures the curriculum and what can educators do to maintain balance?
Language & Thought
How does the language we use in classrooms shape what students are able to think? What is teaching for language?
Pedagogy of Thinking
What specific practices e.g. Socratic questioning, metacognition, the language of thinking. produce a genuine intellectual culture in our classrooms?
By the end of this program, participants will leave with:

An intellectual Identity that connects who you as a thinker to how you teach so that your intellectual life and your professional life are no longer separate compartments.
Ideas, frameworks and questions that elevate what happens in your room – shifting it from content delivery toward genuine intellectual encounter. Students feel the difference before they can name it.

How is this different from other professional development I have done?
Most professional development teaches you to perform better within the existing system. This program asks you to think more carefully about what the system is asking of you, whether that is the right ask and how you can bring depth to your teaching while staying within the system.
Will this conflict with what my institution expects of me?
No, not at all. One of the programs explicit outcomes is giving you tools to introduce intellectual depth within your curriculum without compromising institutional requirements.
How are sessions delivered?
All sessions are held live online. Sessions are collaborative and interactive, not passive listening. You’ll also have access to resources and notes between sessions via Google Classroom.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. Participants who complete the program receive a Certificate of Completion from Edwise.
