Social Sciences for Educators
This module has been designed specifically for the Aga Khan University – Institute for Educational Development (AKU – IED) delivered each semester to postgraduate students.
The objective of this module is to enable educators situate the educational enterprise amidst the broader socio-historical landscape. This would in turn enable them to develop and deliver context appropriate educational programs for young learners.
Participants are provided a structured exposure to the fundamental theories and topics from the History of Social Sciences particularly from Political, Economic and Social Theory. Importantly, linkages between those theories and concepts to education are made explicit. Educators are encouraged to develop critical perspectives on the organization of schools, curriculum and pedagogy. They are also prompted to reflect upon the Eurocentrism and the hegemonic ideas underpinning the educational architecture.
