Alsama Project – Lebanon

Situated in the Shatila and Bourj el-Barajneh Refugee camps in Beirut, Lebanon, are the five (5) educational centers of the Alsama Project. Alsama runs an context-specific Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) for young learners, mainly from Syria and Palestine, preparing them for avenues of higher education and professional engagements.

Edwise has been the Educational Consultant for Alsama since February 2024. Combinedly we have worked on two (2) major projects:

  1. Curriculum Development to meet international accreditation standards by WASC.
  2. Design and development of a customized Teacher Training program for Alsama.

Curriculum Development and Planning

Edwise led the review and refinement of Alsama’s 6-year program curriculum, followed by the development of the annual and monthly plans for program execution.

Edwise also focused on enhancing Alsama’s organizational capacities, particularly its human capital, to ensure the revised curriculum is delivered effectively.

One major aim of the engagement was to help Alsama elevate its program curriculum at par with global educational standards. This target was successfully achieved in December 2024, when the Alsama’s curriculum received accreditation from WASC, an international accreditation commission agency.

Customized Teacher Training Program

In 2025, Edwise commenced work on a comprehensive Teacher Training program. This initiative aimed to equip educators from Syria and Lebanon with the requisite theoretical background and pedagogical tools to lead effective classrooms, while being fully aware of the Alsama’s context, the background of its students and its curriculum. The teacher training program emphasizes on helping learners develop lifelong learning skills by creating learning environments that are engaging, empowering and transformative.
